Fault in Roadcut The faulting associated with the Balcones Fault Zone has contributed to the development of the aquifer by creating fractures, or openings in the rock in which water can migrate. The water subsequently dissolves the limestone and over time creates the preferential flowpaths, or dissolution features associated with a karst system.
