Susan K. Hughes - Vice Chairman District 6 - Bexar County
Susan Hughes is a member of the Edwards Aquifer Authority Board of Directors, representing District 6, which covers eastern and southern portions of Bexar County. Her current term expires December 1, 2012. As vice chairman, Ms. Hughes is a member of the Executive Committee of the board and also chairs the Research & Technology Committee.
Ms. Hughes is the founder and president of Wordwright Associates, a marketing and business communications firm in San Antonio. She is a facilitator and mediator, focusing on public policy issues. She was formerly on the boards of the National Audubon Society, Audubon Texas, and the Bexar Audubon Society.
Ms. Hughes is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in speech and drama. She received a master’s degree in library science from The University of Texas at Austin. She had a 15-year career establishing and managing corporate and other special libraries and information centers before moving into marketing and corporate communications.
Ms. Hughes served eight years as the environmental representative on the South Central Texas Regional Water Planning Group (Region L). She has been involved in many environmental organizations and projects, including the Bexar Audubon Society’s South Texas Farm and Range Forum, the San Antonio Environmental Network, and Natural Initiatives, the group that founded the Master Naturalist program. She is board treasurer of Save the Laja, Inc., a Texas non-profit fostering habitat and watershed protection in the Texas–Central Mexico corridor, and she is a member of the Texas Women’s Forum. Through her company, Bats about Beads, she designs, crafts, and sells custom jewelry.
