Our Purpose Runs Deep

The Edwards Aquifer is more than a water source — it’s a living story that connects our past, present and future. It’s the reason settlers came to this area, and it’s the lifeblood of our growth. Our aquifer is a resource we can study and learn from. It’s an incredible wonder, and it’s why we’re here.

“We now have clear, AI-backed evidence that the Edwards Aquifer Authority’s conservation efforts are working—and will continue to work—even under future climate conditions.” – Dr. Hakan Başağaoğlu

Over the past two decades, the EAA has implemented smart conservation ...strategies—from pumping restrictions to aquifer storage and recovery. But until now, fully quantifying their long-term effectiveness was a challenge.

Thanks to a collaborative study with UTSA, Oklahoma State University, and the South Central Climate Adaptation Science Center, our team used artificial intelligence to simulate future climate scenarios and evaluate “what-if” situations.

The result? These strategies are not only working now, but will also help sustain springflows and aquifer health for years to come—even in the face of drought and climate uncertainty.💧

We're proud to help shape the future of water management with tools that blend science, technology, and proactive planning.

We’re Rooted in Lytle, Texas with the Ruben Gonzalez Mayor City of Lytle TX ! Come on out TODAY - Friday, May 9, 2025, at 10 AM at the Lytle Community Center, 19031 Priest Blvd., Lytle, Texas, 78052.

We’re giving away purple coneflower, turk’s cap, and EAA goodies (while supplies ...last)!

And you may ask yourself, “Well how did it get here?” 🎵

105 million years, during the Age of Dinosaurs, the region was covered by a shallow sea. That sea held a vast collection of life, such as coral, forams, gastropods (which are now fossils). Algae and calcium carbonate also ...precipitated from the warm ocean waters forming thick carbonate sediments. 65.5 million years ago, a mass extinction event occurred, and almost all of the dinosaurs disappeared (with the exception of birds) and made way for the Age of Mammals.

Over millions of years, plate tectonics resulted in South-Central Texas being uplifted. The resulting heat and pressure caused the soft carbonate muds to turn into the hard limestone that forms the Edwards Plateau. The Edwards Limestone that forms the Edwards Plateau has been dropped down by faults and forms the Recharge Zone of the Edwards Aquifer.

Meet Ernie Schirmer of Schirmer Farms!🌽 🌾

Ernie shares his passion for farming and how a water-saving pivot irrigation system, made possible by our Groundwater Conservation Program, is making a difference. Compared to traditional flood irrigation, pivot irrigation helps conserve ...water while keeping crops like corn and cotton thriving—two staples we all enjoy on the daily.

Protecting the Edwards Aquifer means protecting the farmers who help sustain us—and the future of this precious resource.💧🌱

A huge thank you to PepsiCo U.S. Beverages and U.S. Foods for their generous investment in the Edwards Aquifer Authority’s Groundwater Conservation Program. Your support is helping us make real, lasting impact across our region.
